Yerevan, Armenia - March 8, 2023
The Yerevan Press Club (YPC) has elected Nazik Avdalyan as its new chairwoman. Avdalyan is a veteran journalist and media manager, and she replaces outgoing chair Satik Seyranyan.
Avdalyan has been a member of the YPC since 2005, and was elected vice chair in 2017. She has also served as the head of the club's investigative journalism program. In her role, she worked with journalists to investigate and expose corruption and other misconduct in Armenia.
Avdalyan said she is honored to be elected chair of the YPC, and that she is committed to continuing the club's work in promoting press freedom and freedom of expression in Armenia. She also said that she would work to improve the club's financial situation and to expand its membership.
The YPC is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1999. Its mission is to promote press freedom and freedom of expression in Armenia, and to provide a platform for journalists to network and share ideas.
The club has been a vocal critic of the Armenian government's crackdown on the media, and has called for the release of journalists who have been imprisoned for their work. The club has also been a strong advocate for the rights of journalists, and has called for the government to improve the working conditions for journalists in Armenia.
Avdalyan's election as chair of the YPC is a sign of the club's commitment to continuing its work in promoting press freedom and freedom of expression in Armenia.
